About Neighborhood

Neighborhood is an economic empowerment nonprofit working to ensure that every family in Hampton Roads earns enough to thrive—not just survive. Through a powerful combination of career training, personal development, and community building, our program helps individuals from underserved communities secure living-wage employment and rewrite their futures. We don’t just prepare people for jobs—we unleash possibility.

The Role

We’re looking for a mission-aligned, detail-oriented Recruitment & Employment Specialist to support individuals through every step of their Neighborhood journey—from the moment they apply, all the way through their job search after graduation.

This role blends community outreach and relationship-building with process coordination and documentation. You’ll help identify passionate students, guide them through our admissions pipeline, and support their transition into living-wage employment. If you love connecting people with purpose and tracking real-world outcomes, this is your lane.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Admissions

  • Coordinate the full admissions journey: applications, interviews, onboarding, and orientation

  • Track student completion of pre-enrollment steps (assessments, pre-coaching, surveys, etc.)

  • Manage internal documentation and workflow systems (Google Sheets, Salesforce, etc.)

  • Deliver engaging, welcoming orientation sessions

  • Conduct recruitment presentations and build partnerships with referral organizations and community leaders

Employment Support

  • Share job leads and support students and alumni in resume-building and job applications

  • Coordinate with local employers and training providers to identify hiring opportunities

  • Maintain relationships with hiring managers aligned to Neighborhood’s career tracks

  • Help organize employer panels, job fairs, and informational sessions

Alumni Outcomes & Reporting

  • Conduct alumni check-ins at 30, 90, and 180 days post-graduation

  • Track and report on employment metrics, job placements, and student wage outcomes

  • Maintain updated dashboards for program evaluation and grant reporting

  • Assist with occasional alumni engagement opportunities (e.g., workshops, reunions)

Who You Are

  • You have 3–5 years of experience in recruitment, admissions, workforce development, nonprofit programming, or career services

  • You’re a people person with professionalism, warmth, and follow-through

  • You’re highly organized, with the ability to juggle workflows and keep deadlines on track

  • You’re equally comfortable presenting in a room and tracking data in a spreadsheet

  • You believe in the potential of people and want to remove the barriers that hold them back

Preferred Skills & Tools

  • CRM/database experience (Salesforce preferred)

  • Strong project and time management skills

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms)

  • Comfort with community engagement and public speaking

Why Join Neighborhood?

  • You’ll join a team committed to justice, dignity, and real economic impact

  • You’ll help transform lives—and get to witness the results

  • You’ll work alongside passionate teammates building a bold future for our region
